With each passing year that I teach and do Pilates, I fall more in love with how it transforms, uplifts, organizes, and supports. Pilates helps me move through the world with vigor, grace, freedom, strength, and joy.
Hello! I’m Cathryn Swaffar Douglass, a proud graduate of The Pilates Center, located in Boulder, Colorado. A funny story that I like to tell about myself is that I started my Pilates practice over 20 years ago with the purchase of a DVD after watching an infomercial on television. I was drawn in by the calm, controlled, precise movements of the people onscreen, and I was very curious to try out the exercises myself. I quickly discovered that I needed and wanted the immersive experience of hands-on, in-person instruction.
With some trepidation, I signed up for my first mat class, climbed a long set of stairs to the top floor of a local building, and opened the door to a bright and airy studio. The excitement and eagerness to learn that I felt after that very first experience has never left me. To this day, I regularly take classes and workshops to continue to deepen my understanding of the Pilates method.
If you’re interested in learning more about Pilates and how a consistent practice can and will transform you, we can work together in private or semi-private lessons or group classes. And let’s get this out of the way: you are not too old, too stiff, too deconditioned, too fill-in-the-blank to start! I really enjoy meeting new clients, learning about their lives, understanding their goals and motives, and compassionately walking alongside them as they grow and change. I hope to meet you soon!
I live happily in Portland with my husband and rescue dog. I love the ruggedness and beauty of the New England outdoors. Pilates is the secret sauce that keeps me walking, skiing, cycling, snowshoeing, and hiking with abandon.
I am indebted to the master teachers at The Pilates Center, my wonderful fellow teachers at Springboard, and the fantastic and committed clients with whom I come in contact every day.
